Lilacs and a French Fireman's Bucket

Hello Everyone!
I hope you are all having a great Monday!
I wanted to share a few pictures with you that I took of some lilacs I purchased from Whole Foods and my french fireman's bucket.
Most of you already know I grew up in Montana....
Lilacs grow like weeds in Montana.
When I was a kid I didn't really care for lilac bushes all that much....
I thought they just looked like a plain green bush...
Well now I think differently about lilac bushes...
I do however wish they would bloom all summer long, but I guess that is why they are so special when they do bloom.
I decided to make use of this bucket to hold the flowers.

I found this french antique fireman's bucket at the flea market for my shop.
I couldn't pass it up, as it is red...
Red is one of my favorite accent colors to use in my home.

This bucket has a handle at the bottom of the bucket, that made it easier for the fireman to throw water on the fire....
Since it has a handle at the bottom of the bucket you can't use it to hold flowers sitting on a table.

However it can be used as a vase if you hang it from something....

I chose to hang it from my orchard ladder and fill it full of lilacs.

I can't wait for my lilacs to bloom.
Thank you for taking the time to stop by.
I hope you all enjoy your week!

Take Care,
Maria

They look dreamy paired with this rustic bucket.

What an amazing find...I can't help but imagine these fireman got quite the workout if dousing fires with these little buckets. :)

  58. Awww that bucket is to die for. How interesting it is with the handle on the bottom. Hmmm...I can smell the lilacs from here. I tried to put in a bush a few years ago but my dogs mangled it. I am hoping to try again this year...I think I will need to put a fence around the bush to protect it from my puppies:o)
    Cheers!

  60. I enjoy your blog very much.

Did you know that old fireman buckets are sometimes pointed on the bottom? A handle or a pointed bottom made the bucket useless for mopping, etc. as it would tip over. Therefore, it wasn't 'borrowed' and moved away from the firefighting equipment.

  61. It's been too cold here in New York, my lilacs aren't going to come out for a long time! But I can't wait though. My quince bush is the first thing to bloom in my garden (besides the crocuses) and it is still hesitating! Visit my blog when you have a moment. I just posted a piece on handbags.

  67. I love that bucket, Maria! I have one almost exactly like it. I got it at an antique mall and did a post about it. Mine doesn't have a cool handle on the bottom though. It does have the chippy red patina, and it has the letter B on it....which is my Farmboy's last name initial. ;-) Right now it holds scrap wood, but in the future I hope to use it as a magazine rack or to fill it with greenery.
I love lilacs too! My sister has a white and lavender bush and I always cut some when they bloom, which probably won't be until May unless we get some better weather!
Your photos are lovely as always!!
